Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then located many other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police report initial examinations indicate the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; officials are presently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were attempting "to solve the case" and have requested to the public for details.
A senior political figure stated the vandalism made him without words and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right attack five years ago," he stated on social media, referring to the murder of nine people by a gunman aiming at residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
